Evan Behrle, Baltimore City Health Department

Evan's Fellowship:

Evan serves as the Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff. (The latter, Gabe Auteri, was a 2015-16 Baltimore Corps Fellow.) He greases the wheels of a machine that's working to make Baltimore's health outcomes better and more equal.

Background:

Evan grew up in and around north Baltimore. For the last six years, he's been studying political philosophy at the University of Virginia and the University of Oxford, focusing on the nature and justification of the equal moral worth of human beings, and where that leaves us vis-a-vis the other animals. He's motivated by a commitment to realizing principles of egalitarian social justice, whether through public policy work or as an academic.

Why do you choose to live and work in Baltimore?

As a Baltimorean, I have both an in-born affection for the city and a sense of complicity in its failings. My mother and sister live in the area, too, and they're alright.

What's one surprising fact about yourself?

I'm pretty good at that dancing game they have in arcades, unfortunately.
