We want Black boys to gain a greater sense of self and the power to create narratives that transform the way Black males are viewed. To do this, it’s important for them to have awareness of who they are as individuals and within the context of their community and society. A joint venture by Son of a Dream, LLC and African Youth Alchemy, “Reflection of Kings” is a Saturday enrichment program that uses media to offer a positive youth development experience for African-American boys ages 10-13. Our entry-level media curriculum will be comprised of workshop instruction, project-based learning, experiential learning and technical training. Sessions will cover media literacy; Me & the Media; and multimedia production and publishing.

Program Goals & Objectives:
1) Goal: To increase participants’ exposure to culturally relevant life & social skills.
2) Goal: To increase participants’ engagement with positive role models.
3) Goal:  Participants will produce media that generate dialogue and build awareness on issues impacting Black males.

Mission Statement

To support the healthy development of African-American boys by using media to help them explore their identities, connect with positive role models, and build awareness on issues impacting Black males.
